A female employee at Kedron Park Hotel was allegedly threatened with a knife during an armed robbery on Friday morning, with police charging two men following separate arrests later that day.
Queensland Police allege two men forced their way into the Lutwyche Road establishment shortly before 7.30am on 10 January, where they stole cash and the worker’s wallet before escaping on a blue road motorcycle.
Police conducted a search warrant at a Beams Road property in Boondall around 6.40pm, resulting in the arrest of a 36-year-old man. A second arrest occurred just after 10pm at a Summerstone Boulevard address in Morayfield, where a 43-year-old man was taken into custody.
The 36-year-old Boondall man faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, deprivation of liberty, and entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence. The 43-year-old Sandstone Point man has been charged with identical offences.
Both men are scheduled to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday, 11 January.
Detectives from Hendra Criminal Investigations Branch are seeking assistance from the public and have requested any dashcam or CCTV footage from Lutwyche Road and Kedron Park Road captured between 6.50am and 8.20am on Friday.
Kedron and Gosford Park are brimming with hidden culinary treasures, and we’ve tracked down the ones earning the loudest praise. From mouthwatering menus to warm, welcoming atmospheres, these local favourites are winning hearts—and appetites. Here’s where to go when you’re craving something special!
Melissa Evans ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A group of us came in for lunch on a wet Wednesday. We had two special needs ppl with us. The young man that met us was lovely and welcoming. He set up the heater for us and talked us through the menu and beer options. The food was delicious and portion size was very generous. The apple strudel was so good and the coffee was perfect. We were checked on often and we left happy and very full. I recommend coming here to anyone and will come back.
Mason Min ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ All the staff were super friendly, and the draft beer they recommended was amazing. I also tried the Schweinshaxe for the first time, it was absolutely delicious! Great vibe overall, and since it’s close to home, I’ll definitely be coming back often ☺️
Gilles D ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really happy I found this place. We had the goulash and the schnitzel as an early lunch. The first was rich and tasty, whereas the latter was crunchy and just done. The wheat beer was also great. Both portions were very generous, but I could not resist the strudel. Crunchy, with a soft filling and some really good custard to go with it. I would absolutely recommend it, and I’ll definitely be back. Finally, we found a place because we arrived really early. It is likely that a booking would be a good idea for peak hours and large groups.
Christopher Marinko ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unbelievably good! Delicious food, great serving sizes, friendly and fast. I am certain that you could order ANYTHING on the menu, and be happy. The Calamari was especially delicious aaaanndd the baklava was, in a word, perfection. With many restaurants in Brisbane serving up average food, this place is a gem 💎 10/5 STARS

We ordered the share platter that you choose three items from selection (we had lamb kebabs, pork bites and garlic bread), 300gram rump, chips, caesar salad with Dianne Sauce and Salt and Pepper Calamari, chips and salad. You have the option also to sit and catch up in the sports bar and pokies area. Staff are very polite, helpful and welcoming in all the areas.
Heather Ross ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The KP is a long standing and convenient neighbourhood pub where the service is always prompt and efficient. The food is good value for money with an adequate menu range and the environment is family friendly with an enclosed children’s playground.
Brett Watkins ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We put in an order online however the kitchen was closed due to renovations . Because we paid they cooked us our dinner anyway and delivered. Wow. Its been a long time since I’ve seen service like that. The food is amazing . Lovely people
Shyam Sunder ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The buffet was great. They hand over the menu and you can order from the buffet menu. They prepare you hot and fresh starters, breads and curries. They prepare the same food again if we request again fresh and hot. The buffet costs $25 pp. It includes 2 non veg starters, 2 Veg starters, 3 non veg curries, 2 Veg curries, rice, naan, desert and salad.
Mitchell Everlyn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing place to have dinner! I was here with my family. The service from the staff was incredible, they were very nice and extremely knowledgeable! The food itself provided a depth of flavors and was very filling. It was also very quick to come out. The price of the night overall was very reasonable as well. I would definitely recommend trialling this restaurant for a good Indian cuisine!
Kedron, are you ready for the AFL showdown of the year? The Brisbane Lions have defied all odds to reach the 2024 AFL grand final, and Kedron Park Hotel is the place to catch all the action!
A season that began with three losses. Stuck in thirteenth midway through the season. A staggering 44 points down to GWS in the semis, and 25 down to Geelong in the prelims. And yet, the Brisbane Lions have clawed their way to the brink of history.
This Saturday, 28 September, they’ll face the Sydney Swans in the 2024 AFL grand final. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. at the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Your ultimate grand final destination
Kedron Park Hotel is pulling out all the stops for this historic match. Join them for a pre-game BBQ starting at 12:00 p.m. to fuel up for the big game. There’ll be food and bar specials throughout the event to keep your energy up as you cheer for the Lions!
Get into the spirit with face painting for the kids (and adults!) and soak in the electric atmosphere of the MCG right here at Kedron, with venue-wide decorations to match the occasion.
The stage is set
The Lions entered the finals from fifth place but are charging into the grand final with incredible momentum. They’ve beaten the Swans three times in a row, including a nail-biting two-point victory earlier this season.
Their finals campaign has been nothing short of dramatic. After coming back from a 44-point deficit against Greater Western Sydney in the semis, they showed resilience once again by rallying from 25 points down against Geelong to secure their spot in the season decider.
This is the first grand final without a Victorian team since 2006, and club legend Leigh Matthews will hand over the cup if the Lions win. After last year’s close loss, the team is hungrier than ever for redemption. Could this be the fairytale ending they’ve been working for all season?

Despite their history, interested parties have singled out these two sites given their significant land holdings. The fact that ALH — which is, in turn, 75 per cent owned by Woolworths — was involved made it more attractive for potential investors given their reputation.
These hotels are being marketed by the commercial real estate firm Burgess Rawson. Investors from abroad, across the state, and even within the state have allegedly expressed interest in the properties, according to Burgess Rawson agent Glenn Conridge.
Kedron Park Hotel and Edinburgh Castle Hotel are particularly attractive due to the size of the land and their potential for future developments in the long run, however it is also clear that they possess a certain degree of historical value as a result of their age.
Kedron Park Hotel
Established in 1881, Kedron Park Hotel was designed by the architect John R. Hall for the hotel’s owner and licensee, Frederick Morris. The building was set up on the intersection of what was formerly known as Gympie and Bald Hills Rd, opposite where the Kedron Park Racecourse once stood.
Morris was involved with organising picnic race meetings at the racecourse as a means of attracting customers to the hotel. During this time period, the hotel had a variety of facilities such as cricket, a bowling green, skittles and quoits, archery, rifle practice, and pigeon shooting. The hotel’s ownership eventually changed hands, and in 1919, James F Cavill became the new licensee.

Under Cavill’s ownership, a popular zoo ran behind the hotel. The zoo was renowned for being the home of exotic animals such as crocodiles and monkeys, as well as a parrot capable of swearing.

On the other hand, Edinburgh Castle Hotel’s origins date back to 1865, where the original building was built by a man named William Orr, and it was positioned on the opposite side of Edinburgh Castle Road.
The hotel received its name from the Scottish settlers who resided in the Bald Hill area, and was owned by the Orr family until Michael Goodwin obtained the license in 1885. By 1888, however, the hotel fell into a state of disrepair after coaches were replaced with railway lines.
In order to adapt, Goodwin applied for the license of a new hotel on the corner of Gympie and Edinburgh Castle Rd. The new Edinburgh Castle Hotel on Gympie Rd, which still stands to this day, was eventually constructed in 1892. The original hotel that Orr built reopened and adopted a new identity as Bonny View.
